Custom Shirt

So with the new year and resolutions I have decided to try to step up my dress game.  I have gone to the usual places, but am still searching for a perfect dress shirt.  I put on Brook Brothers shirts and they all seem to look like they were made for my father.  They are boxy and not trim.  I then go to Banana Republic and the shirts just don’t seem like high quality and then some of them look like I am going out to a disco.

I want a shirt that does not make me look bigger but that I can wear to the office and feel comfortable in.  I have found a couple of places that work on custom shirts.  I have never thought about a custom shirt or what I would want from a shirt.  I have started to look at all the differences and choices and realized maybe I need to figure out what I want from a shirt first.  Here is my criteria so far.

  • Wide Collar
  • Trim Fit
  • French Cuff or Roll Cuff
  • Side pleat in the back, it seems to give a better fit
  • Classic, basic colors

I stumbled upon Alexander West here in New York.  I am running into the city this afternoon for some errands and think I will stop by and see what my options are.  It seems crazy to pay over $100.00 for a dress shirt, but then I think about how much I would actually wear the shirt and what my other alternatives are.  I would love to hear from someone who has tried custom shirts.  Here is a picture of my thought.

Current Obsession: Citizen Watch

Our current obsession is our new citizen watch we bought from Amazon.com.  It is sporty but can be worn in most offices.

What I Love Today: Gap Socks

I have taken it upon myself that this year I am going to dress more professionally.  I have not choked from the ties yet, but have found a new way to integrate something fun into what I am wearing.  I like Argyle and this is perfect.  Gap socks are currently on sale for only $5.00

Hamlet Broadway

I recently made my way to watch Hamlet on Broadway.  Too my surprise Jude Law was in the cast.  (His face has been everywhere in New York).  The show was fantastic.  I had never seen Hamlet before, and was taken in by Jude Law.  It was one of the most dynamic and interesting male performances I have ever seen.

What I liked more than the play were the costumes.  The designer made Shakespeare contemporary without going over the top or interfering with the words.  Below are a few highlights from what I could tell the actors were wearing.  They all wore muted tones on black, blue, and the occasional white.  Jude Law had a great cardigan sweater, and the boots were great.  If you find yourself in New York City make sure to catch his performance.
